How To Snack Healthily This Winter

Organisation is key in leading a healthy lifestyle. Keeping your cupboard packed full of healthy, wholesome snacks eliminates temptation that could be counteractive to all that hard work you’ve been putting in. Here at 6X our trainers always have healthy snacks on hand to keep them going. From tuna on crackers, to peanut butter and honey sandwiches, we’re never tempted.

What’s in your cupboard?
Winter is just around the corner, so let’s start building good habits now, because before you know it summer will be back again. Get rid of all those processed, packaged foods that are detrimental to your health. That means no chips, chocolates, biscuits or whatever your weakness is. Instead, opt for low GI foods such as wholemeal or multigrain breads and crackers. Our trainers have various spreads on hand for added flavour. Some good options are natural nut spreads such as peanut or almond butter and honey. Salt can create stress on our cardiovascular system, so choose low salt options where possible, and don’t be fooled by ‘low fat’ labels! More often than not, these products have added sugar to maintain a decent taste and keep you wanting more. Tinned tuna is also great to put on crackers or bread and is easy on the wallet.

Nuts are a great nutrient-dense snacking option. Select your favourite nut, or perhaps a trail mix and pack it away in your cupboard ready to go for in between meals. Another good option is fresh vegetables. Chop up some carrots or celery and pack them away in a tupperware container in your fridge. Eat them plan, or for some extra flavour they can be dipped into hummus or guacamole. For all you sweet tooths, try substituting dessert with fresh fruit. Select your favourite fruit and eat it on it’s own, or for a heartier snack, put it on some Greek yoghurt with a drizzle of honey.

Remember that a diet in moderation is the best type of diet. We all have our weaknesses and it is okay to give into temptation sometimes, but when it comes to junk food, less is more!
